I received these pictures of a previous painting commission recently. This painting was to be placed in the calm centre of an open plan living room area to bring the nearby colour schemes together. The kitchen was bright orange and the other lounge area was a deep blue. Whilst painting this, I used some of the paint the couple had used on the walls in the nearby areas as a base. I then used my usual acrylic paints on further layers.
During planning the picture the colours made me think of the mixture of calm waters and underground fire in ocean eruptions, which I then used as inspiration. But I also wanted to ensure the living space remained a calm relaxing space so I elongated the fire so they were more like bird's eye views of land based volcanic eruption's lava streams.
The canvas size was the largest I could procure at the time. I would love to do more large works, including even larger wall size art work so people can be immersed in the work even more.
